Community to gather for MLK Day art making event
The Arts Council of Princeton will honor the life and legacy of Dr, Martin Luther King Jr. with a community gathering on Monday, January 19th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. Princeton University is pleased to sponsor this event that is FREE and open to all.
The Arts Council's MLK Day event includes art making and a food drive. Participants are invited to make windows signs to be placed in their homes to spread
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s messages of peace and social justice.
Pantry-stable goods collected during the event will stock the free pantry located outside ACP’s Paul Robeson Center for the Arts.

Paul Robeson Center for the Arts, 102 WItherspoon Street, Princeton.
Princeton University offices will be closed on Monday, January 19 in obersevance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Princeton paleontologist: Yes, tiny tyrannosaurs lived alongside T. rex
For decades, paleontologists have debated whether a small tyrannosauroid skull found in 1942 belonged to a juvenile T. rex or was a full-grown member of a previously unknown species, eventually dubbed Nanotyrannus lancensis.
A recent study in the journal Science, led by a collaboration between Princeton University and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History (CMNH), answers the question: Yes, Nanotyrannus is its own species, and this small skull represents a full-grown adult.

From Town Topics: “Science on Saturday” Talks at Plasma Physics Lab Are Geared Toward Anyone Who is Curious
As has been the custom for some four decades, the “Science on Saturday at the Princeton Plasma Physics Lab” (PPPL) series that opens at 9:30 a.m. on January 10 is likely to draw overflow crowds. Topics of the free talks by scientists, engineers, and others involved in cutting-edge research range this year from bee pollinators to lasers, from fighting cancer to biodiversity — and then some.
“We are so fortunate to live in a community where so many people are naturally curious about the latest scientific advances,” said State Sen. Andrew Zwicker, who is PPPL’s head of public engagement and workforce development. “I have the absolute delight of hosting it every year. We have some of the most amazing scientists in the area.”

From TAPinto Princeton: Princeton University Creates Pathway for Entry-Level Theater Stagehands
Applications are open for the Lewis Center for the Arts’s Princeton Production Workforce Training (PPWT) program. This four-week summer intensive provides training in theatrical tech work for New Jersey high school graduates.
The goal of the training program is to provide an early career cohort of workers with a marketable skill set that does not require a college degree.
In turn, these workers will be qualified to fill casual stagehand opportunities at the Lewis Center for the Arts, Princeton University’s Department of Music, as well as McCarter Theatre Center, Passage Theatre, and a variety of local professional presenting organizations.

The Ronald E. Hatcher Science on Saturday Lecture series has been held for more than 40 years.
This annual series of lectures is given by scientists, engineers, and other professionals involved in cutting-edge research. Held on Saturday mornings throughout winter, the lectures are geared toward high school students. The program draws more than 300 students, teachers, parents, and community members. Topics are selected from a variety of disciplines.
On January 17, Aimy Wissa of Princeton University presents Nature in Motion: What Animals Can Teach Us About Moving Through the World.

MLK Day Window Sign Making Workshop
Join the Arts Council of Princeton as we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr with a community gathering and hands-on art making, free and open to all. Event activities include window sign making, button making, and a food drive.
The Arts Council will provide materials to design a sign to be placed in the window of your home, spreading MLK’s messages of peace and social justice with all passersby.
Draw, collage, color, and gather inspiration from iconic Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. quotes. Facilitated by ACP board members Aaron Fisher and Gregory Smith, you’ll begin with a provided template featuring an image and quote of MLK, or you can start from scratch to create your own design.
Bring pantry-stable goods for our MLK Day Food Drive. Goods will be made available in the Free Pantry outside ACP’s Paul Robeson for the Arts.

Join Princeton Athletics for its annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day Clinic on Saturday, January 31st from 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. The event will take place on the indoor track in Jadwin Gym where Tiger fans (girls and boys ages 5-12) are encouraged to come out and learn new sports from several of our Princeton women’s teams!
