Student Performance Groups Take The Stage at Porchfest on Saturday, April 26
The Arts Council of Princeton hosts its fourth annual Porchfest on April 26 from 12:00 to 6:00 PM.
Porchfest is a free, walkable music festival where neighbors offer up their front porches as DIY concert venues. Talented performers play sets throughout the neighborhood during this day-long celebration of music, art, and our wonderful community.
Stop by the Maclean House Porch for student performance and a free photobooth! The Princeton University Band kicks off the festivities at 11:45 AM. Scheduled performers include jazz, bluegrass, rock, and acoustic groups.

New Jersey community college educators convene at Princeton to share ideas, build partnerships for the humanities
Humanities professors and administrators from all 18 public community colleges in New Jersey spent a full day on Princeton University’s campus April 11 for a conference focused on increasing the vitality of the humanities in the college classroom and deepening partnerships with Princeton.
The event, the first in a series, was hosted by Princeton’s new Humanities Initiative
and the Program for Community College Engagement (PCCE).

Princeton dedicates building, unveils portrait in honor of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor ’76
Princeton University dedicated Sonia Sotomayor Hall in honor of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Class of 1976, at a ceremony in Chancellor Green on April 11. The University also unveiled a portrait of Justice Sotomayor that will be added to Princeton’s campus art collection.

Unshattered Matter by Kate Stewart ‘25
Unshattered Matter, a new play by Princeton senior Kate Stewart, examines self-reflection, redemption, and human capacity for growth amidst personal flaws and mistakes. The story follows Rena, a young woman caught between her carefree but reckless past and a moment of reckoning after a life-altering accident. Trapped in an introspective space between life and death, she confronts her choices, guilt, and identity through conversations with her reflection, exploring the struggle to reconcile youthful escapism with the consequences of one's actions, highlighting the resilience of the human spirit. The play speaks to the transformative power of acceptance and the courage to embrace imperfection while choosing to move forward.

Bruen and the Founding-Era Conception of Rights
The Supreme Court’s 2022 decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen introduced a new test for evaluating gun regulations based on the Second Amendment’s text and historical tradition. While Bruen claims to reflect original constitutional meaning, critics argue its historical approach misinterprets the Founding-era understanding of rights, raising questions about the decision’s legitimacy.
J. Joel Alicea, Professor of Law at the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law and the Director of the Law School’s Center for the Constitution and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition, will explore if these historical criticisms have the potential to undermine Bruen's legitimacy.

A Great Gatsby at 100 event
Princeton University Library is wrapping up "Great Gatsby at 100" events with an after-hours "speakeasy" featuring Glenn Crytzer, a New York City based bandleader, arranger, composer, guitarist and vocalist, and his band.
Dress up, sip a mocktail version of the Bee's Knees (a Prohibition era drink), try your hand at answering Gatsby trivia, and enjoy the music of the Jazz Age.

It’s another weekend of Special Saturday hours at the Cotsen Children's Library, but this time, we’re also throwing a little soirée!
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the publication of “The Great Gatsby” this April, Princeton University Library is planning a suite of on- and off-campus programming inspired by the library’s significant Fitzgerald and “The Great Gatsby” related holdings. And Cotsen will be joining the fun with “The Great Catsby” where we’re celebrating our fabulous feline friends!
Come decorate a marvelous mask, dance to jazz music, strike a pose in front of an art deco backdrop, and find famous literary cats in the gallery. The event will also benefit SAVE, our local animal shelter. Guests are invited to donate cans of wet cat food to help local kitties waiting for their forever homes!
