Wegovy (semaglutide) and Zepbound (tirzepatide) are prescription medicines for patients with obesity or with overweight, who also have weight-related medical problems, to help them lose weight, when paired with diet and exercise. Ozempic (semaglutide) is for patients with type 2 diabetes, paired with diet and exercise. All three medicines may cause serious side effects including possible thyroid tumors and thyroid cancer. Do not use them if you or any of your family have ever had a type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or if you have an endocrine system condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). They may also cause other serious side effects, including pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, increased risk of low blood sugar, kidney problems, serious allergic reactions, changes in vision in patients with type 2 diabetes, increased heart rate, and depression or suicidal thoughts.
