Andy,
Next Monday marks 54 years to the day that a rusty fishing boat manned by 12 ordinary people set sail — straight for a U.S. nuclear bomb testing zone off the Alaskan coast. That voyage was the start of Greenpeace’s journey.
The voyage, at least in terms of how the Greenpeace founders thought the journey would end, fell short of their visions. But the crew's display of courage and savvy use of media did more than just end nuclear testing in the U.S. Their audacity sparked a global movement.
Over half a century later, the movement has expanded creative non-violent actions, pioneering investigations, and historic wins to over 55 countries — all in furtherance of a system where people and the planet come before wealthy polluters’ profits. And since Greenpeace USA is 100% independent, victories like these have only been possible with campaigners, volunteers, allies, and supporters like you, all united in the fight for a just, green, and peaceful future.
Ahead of the deadline on September 14 at midnight, will you add your name to the card to join Greenpeace USA in celebrating our global movement’s 54th anniversary?
Today, the stakes facing our planet have reached a tipping point. The destruction of our natural world that sparked the first Greenpeace voyage is getting worse. We’re rapidly losing biodiversity across the globe with every passing moment. Greed-fueled crises are deepening, bringing the climate and social inequality to the brink.
But Greenpeace’s story has never been one of defeatism. It’s one of hope in action. It’s about fearless creativity and unexpected progress. It’s the story of ordinary people achieving extraordinary things. And it’s proof that when we come together in joyful defiance of the status quo, we can win the liveable world we envision.
And one of the best ways we can keep hope in action is by holding space to honor the milestones that got us where we are now — so Andy, we’re counting on you to get in on the celebration ahead of our big day. Andy, we need to hear from you. Don’t wait — sign the card now while there’s still time!

Whether you’ve been with us since Day 1 or just joined yesterday — thank you for being a part of our story.
