THE SWEATER THAT MADE HISTORY

45 years ago today, a young Diana Spencer stepped out at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor to watch her fiancé, Prince Charles, compete. The red jumper she wore that day, scattered with white sheep and one lone black one, would become one of the most famous garments in the world.

Made by British knitwear brand Warm & Wonderful, the iconic black sheep has become an integral part of Rowing Blazers' DNA.

The Story of Warm & Wonderful

1979- Joanna Osborne and Sally Muir start Warm & Wonderful and create the iconic "one black sheep" design, first in green, then a variety of colors.

June 6th, 1981 - Newly engaged to Prince Charles, Diana is photographed wearing the black sheep sweater in red to a polo match at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor.

When she later writes in about a small hole at the cuff, Sally and Joanna send her a replacement and the original is tucked away, soon forgotten.

1983 - Diana is photographed once again in the "Black Sheep" sweater, sealing its place in fashion history.

Joanna and Sally open the first proper Warm & Wonderful shop.

1985-1991 - Warm & Wonderful moves to several new locations, eventually settling in Primrose Hill.

2007-2018 - Joanna and Sally publish a wide range of knitting books.

2020 - The Warm & Wonderful sheep jumper returns, in collaboration with American brand Rowing Blazers.

March 2023 - Joanna discovers the first Princess Diana sweater in her attic.

September 2023 - The original sells at Sotheby's for over $1.1 million

Today - Rowing Blazers continues to reimagine Lady Di's iconic red sheep sweater, evolving it into fresh styles, fabrics, colors, and silhouettes for a new generation.
