Introducing the Agentic Work Unit

If you are Winston Churchill, your work might be measured in blood, toil, tears, and sweat . If you are a regular sort of machine, it’s measured in things like joules or foot-pounds, or ergs. Until now, however, companies didn’t have a good way to quantify the work their AI agents were performing. They could tally up tokens, perhaps, or time saved, but those measures are imperfect: Tokens tell you how much your AI is talking, not what it’s actually getting done. Time saved also falls short.

So, this week, Salesforce introduced the Agentic Work Unit. An AWU is one discrete task accomplished by an AI agent – a prompt processed, a reasoning chain completed, a tool invoked.

Notably, the conversion rate between AWUs and tokens is elastic: As platforms and installations mature, high-frequency, deterministic tasks (like triggering a Flow or calling an API) will become increasingly “token-lean.” Complex reasoning and autonomous problem-solving may see an increase in input tokens.

Salesforce will share more details about AWUs as thinking and quantification evolves but take a single data point for now: Service Agents performed 129 million AWUs in Q4, without any sweat or tears at all.

Inside the Agentic Enterprise (and the AI-Assisted Creamery)

How Does the Agentic Enterprise Really Work?
Stephanie Losee was in a panic: She only had two days to complete her employee evaluations, not six weeks like she previously thought. Using a combination of Slackbot and the Manager Agent, however, she was able to complete the task in just a few hours. Phew. That’s just one example of what it’s like to work inside an Agentic Enterprise, a company where humans and agents collaborate seamlessly. Salesforce itself is Customer Zero – building AI agents internally and prototyping the path for customers who seek to do the same.

How AI Helped Save Petaluma Creamery
Out in the green pastures of the Northern California Dairy Belt a family run creamery turned to AI to reboot its business, hamstrung by rising costs: The Petaluma Creamery hit some hard times a while back, until cousins Larry and Daniel Peter infused the traditional practices of dairy farming with a little creamy AI goodness.

“We were doing everything kind of old school before,” said Larry, “Now, we’ve been on Agentforce for more than a year. It tells us what accounts to go to on what day; it tells us who needs more cheese and what we need to deliver. It’s a really big support.”

The “Intern” in the Machine: Why LLMs Need a Script to Scale
Before a big internal meeting, Salesforce built an agent to help sellers learn new product lines. But as the LLM interacted with the team, it began to drift, writes Joe Inzerillo, President, Enterprise and AI Technology at Salesforce. “One day, the quiz would be a perfect assessment of core value propositions; the next, after encountering a new prompt or piece of documentation, it would wander into a cul-de-sac.”

The solution? A hybrid engine that combines the creative horsepower of probabilistic LLMs with the precision steering of deterministic workflows.

Inside the Million-Dollar Puzzle

Typically, brands can spend months or a year creating a 30-second Super Bowl spot. This year, MrBeast and Salesforce made one in just 27 days. The resulting campaign is part high-octane TV commercial, part digital treasure hunt, part real-world product demonstration.

The Salesforce Newsroom sat down with John Zissimos, Chief Brand and Creative Officer, to discuss how his team handled the “creative chaos” of working with Beast Industries, how Slack powers a global production of over 500 crew members, and why the future of marketing is influencers.

Marketers Have Adopted AI, But They’re Still Sending Generic Campaigns
Salesforce’s 2026 State of Marketing report reveals a pivotal shift in the industry: Customers want brand interactions to feel like interacting with an LLM – instant, conversational, and personalized. Yet 69% of marketers still struggle to promptly respond to customers and 84% still send generic campaigns. “We are using the most powerful technology in history to send more one-way spam, faster,” said Bobby Jania, Salesforce Agentforce Marketing CMO.

The good news: marketers with unified customer data have an advantage over those with disjointed data sources.

How Enterprise AI Will Overcome the Last Mile
Remember the rollouts of email, broadband, the cloud, and other technology innovations? There’s that gap between staging impressive demos and making those systems work reliably in real-world operations, as early potential rams into the countless challenges that lie between exciting prototype and adoption at scale. Enterprise AI is just the latest innovation to fall into this chasm.

Enterprise AI, said Jim Cavalieri, a 25-year Salesforce veteran and advisor to the chair and CEO of the company, “is spreading with consumer-tech speed while demanding enterprise-level organizational change.”

Read how Salesforce has been closing that gap ever since it launched Agentforce in 2024.
