Hey Trail Family,
We hope this note finds you well and soaking up the best of summer wherever your adventures take you. Here at Six Moon Designs, we’ve been loving the long days with crisp alpine air and we’ve got some trail tested inspiration to share with you this week.
If you’re in or near the Pacific Northwest, you know it’s prime time to get outside. Wildflowers are bursting along ridgelines, snow has cleared from most high-elevation routes, and the forests are alive with that fresh, piney energy that makes Oregon summers so special. Whether you're planning your next thru-hike, weekend loop, or a simple day trip with your pup, now’s the time to get out there.
Trail Spotlight: Cast and Burnt Lake Backpacking Loop
Just outside of Zigzag, Oregon and tucked near Mt. Hood, the Cast and Burnt Lake loop is a perfect intro backpacking trip for beginners, or a peaceful overnight for seasoned hikers looking to reset. I actually did this one in late June with a friend and her dog, and it was such a fun, manageable route that still felt like a real backcountry getaway. Expect dense, lush forest, classic PNW mossy magic, and reflective alpine lakes that make for perfect lunch or camping spots. The trail is well marked and mellow enough for newer hikers, but still gives you that isolated feeling that makes backpacking so rewarding.

Quick Hit Day Hike: Ramona Falls
If you're not quite ready to pack up your overnight gear, Ramona Falls is a must in the area for a day trip. Just a short drive from the Mirror Lake trailhead, this 7 mile loop takes you along the Sandy River, through shady old growth forest, and ends at a stunning 120 foot fan shaped waterfall that feels straight out of a dream. It’s dog friendly, shaded for most of the way, and incredibly scenic without being too strenuous.
Wherever you're headed this weekend, we hope you get a chance to connect with nature, breathe deep, and maybe try something new. And if you’re heading out with your Six Moon gear, tag us @sixmoondesigns. We’d love to share your adventure with the community!
See you out there,
