Hey SMD Friends!
Late August is here, and while we should be feeling the first hints of fall in the Pacific Northwest, it’s been anything but chilly. A full heat wave settled over Portland and much of the region, but cooler days and crisp trail mornings are just around the corner, and we’re already thinking about fall adventures.
After saying goodbye to PCT Days a couple weeks ago I was able to take a trip up the Wind River in Carson, Washington. It was a welcome escape. Shade from old-growth trees, the rush of cold water nearby, and just enough elevation to take the edge off the heat. Even though it was a quick car camping getaway, the Swift X came in handy, keeping all the essentials packed and organized in one sleek setup. Designed for long distance hikers, but just as useful on a laid back weekend in the woods.
Back at our headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon we’re preparing for the seasonal shift (whenever it decides to show up) with a couple fresh restocks arriving this week. If you’ve been waiting for a Large Vest Harness, you're in luck! This is the perfect time of year to clean out your gear closet and take stock of what you might need for those final summer adventures, or to gear up for the start of fall excursions.
Stay cool out there!
Serena & the SMD Team
P.S. Apologies to all the fellow purple lovers out there, but my pack is an older limited release from Pride Month and is no longer available. Let us know if you want to see more limited releases :)

When a wildfire canceled Jade's weekend backpacking trip, she and her husband Matt pivoted hard. What was supposed to be a relaxed two-night hike turned into a 37-mile alpine loop full of spontaneous reroutes, steep climbs, wildflower lush meadows, stormy nights, and even a backcountry gamble for BBQ. With five high mountain passes and four different plans (A through D), this impromptu adventure had it all...
