Early September Updates...
With kids back in school here in Portland and fall traffic picking up, I’m feeling that familiar urge to squeeze in a few more summer adventures while I still can. This week’s blog post about desert escapes and off-season backpacking has me dreaming about future trips and plotting ways to keep the adventure going into the colder seasons.
Lately, I’ve been trying to take advantage of the cool mornings and crisp evenings by getting out on some longer bike rides. It’s that perfect in between weather where you can still enjoy big miles without the heat. It’s a great reminder that adventure doesn’t have to stop just because the calendar says September.
We’d love to hear about your favorite summer adventure, drop us a line or tag us in your photos!
Most of you may not know, but over the past couple of months we had the pleasure of having Sophia, our summer intern, as part of the Six Moon Designs team. From giving input on styles to crunching numbers, she brought great energy and insight to the office. Some of you may have met her at PCT Days (if so, you know how great she is). She’s now off exploring Asia for a few weeks, but stay tuned... she’ll be back in a more permanent position soon.
And finally, a very special happy birthday to Brandon Moak, a key member of the SMD crew and someone who keeps things rolling smoothly around here.
Thanks for being part of the community! Have a wonderful week :)

A Desert Trilogy
By Heather Hoechst

Wondering how to make the most of spring when the high country is still snowed in? Heather Hoechst makes the case for desert backpacking. In this reflection on three early season trips (from Canyonlands to Bears Ears, to Dark Canyon) she explores the quiet, the beauty, and the lessons that come with spending spring in the desert. It’s a thoughtful take on finding space, solitude, and sun before the alpine trails open up.
