Introducing Whisk, Stellar Protocol 23

Tomorrow at 10 AM PST | 1700 UTC, Stellar Protocol 23 goes live, and for the first time, it has a name: Whisk.

Protocol numbers have long marked our progress. Useful, yes, but not always memorable. By introducing names, we make upgrades easier to reference and give the community a shared language for milestones. Since this is Protocol 23, we looked to the 23rd letter of the alphabet: W. From there, the choice was clear - Whisk: practical, versatile, and built for real work.

What Whisk brings:

Unified Events: One event system for the entire network, eliminating fragmentation and streamlining development for classic Stellar operations and smart contracts.
Parallel Transaction Processing: Processes multiple transactions at once, boosting throughput, reducing confirmation times, and keeping fees low.

Alongside these major features, Whisk introduces six additional optimizations that improve efficiency today while preparing Stellar for the demands of a larger, more complex ecosystem.

To benefit from these changes, please upgrade to the latest Stellar SDKs before tomorrow’s vote. Applications that aren’t updated may not function correctly once Whisk goes live.
