Ethiopia Suke Quto is back. We didn’t think this year’s lot could top the last, but we love to be proven wrong. Crisp and radiant, it's sunshine in a cup with notes of peach and jasmine.

Set on sweeping slopes between mountains and plateaus near the village of Kumure in Ethiopia's Guji Zone, the two farms that make up Suke Quto thrive in volcanic, loamy soil—rich in nutrients ideal for producing exceptional coffee.
Before becoming a coffee farmer, Tesfaye Bekele worked in natural resource management for the Ethiopian government. After a devastating brushfire destroyed much of the native forest in the Odo Shakiso woreda of Guji, he watched as farmers replanted the land with corn—a crop he feared would only worsen soil erosion. Determined to find an alternative that could restore the ecosystem and sustain the community, Tesfaye began planting coffee and producing seedlings, eventually inspiring his neighbors to do the same.
To this day, Tesfaye views Suke Quto first as a conservation project, and only second as a business. The farm is semi-forested with a mix of native and shade trees that protect the coffee plants, while natural mulch from fallen leaves and clippings replenishes the soil with nutrients.
We’ve been honored to partner with Tesfaye since 2010. Suke Quto is more than exceptional coffee—it’s his vision in action: conservation, community, and quality.
