The Dirtiest Beach Day of the Year

JOIN A CLEANUP
JUL5-tips_02

Email,

We know that the Fourth of July is one of the busiest beach days of the year. But, with the holiday falling on a weekend, the word from the Surfrider network is that this Independence Day weekend is shaping up to be one of the messiest yet.

That’s why we put together this short guide on how to celebrate without leaving a trace:

 CELEBRATE RESPONSIBLY

Enjoy Your Holiday,

But Please Leave Only Footprints.

Before you go:

  • Bring reusable water bottles, cups, food containers, and utensils

  • Skip the balloons — they end up in the ocean

  • Bring two bags — one for trash and one for recyclables

At the beach:

  • Set up away from dunes and nesting areas

  • Anchor your tent and umbrella so they don't blow away

  • Pick up plastic pieces (bottle caps, straw wrappers, bits of broken plastic)

When you leave:

  • Do a sweep of your area before you pack up

  • Take everything you brought. Everything.

  • Dispose of trash and recycling properly (don't leave bags on the beach)

And if you want to go one step further — volunteer with a Surfrider chapter on July 5!

More than 50 cleanups are happening nationwide. Bring your friends, your family, your coworkers. One hour of your time makes a massive difference.

See you on the sand,

The Surfrider Team

P.S. These tips work for any beach day, not just the Fourth of July. Share this with friends and family who are heading to the coast this weekend.
