Email,
This week Surfrider hosted the 10th Annual Coastal Recreation Hill Day—our biggest federal advocacy event of the year!
For the last decade, each spring we bring our grassroots power to Capitol Hill, convening with members of Congress on both sides of the aisle. The goal? To share why protecting your favorite beach matters to you.
Hill Day is a powerful moment, a time when our coast-to-coast network comes together to inspire protections of the coastal places we all love. Over the span of 10 years, Surfrider has activated more than 1000 chapter leaders, student club reps, and partners to participate in this annual event.
During these meetings with federal elected officials, it’s so impactful when we reveal how many active Surfrider members live in the district they represent. People like you. This year, Surfrider met with members of Congress, agencies, and the Trump Administration to amplify your voice to:
- Advocate for the EPA’s BEACH Act, which ensures accurate water testing across the coastal United States including Great Lakes, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands,
- Demand ample funding for NOAA, the agency responsible for leading weather monitoring, ocean research, wave forecasting, and beach management, and
- Say “NO” to new offshore oil and gas leases in the coastal waters of Alaska, California, and the Gulf.
With Hill Day behind us, we’re now taking follow-up action to build stronger legislative partnerships and connect offices across party lines to push these initiatives forward.
The good news? There is still time to make your voice heard!
Head to Surfrider’s “Take Action” webpage to sign action alerts opposing offshore oil drilling, increasing funding for EPA-backed water testing, and strengthening NOAA’s coastal management and research programs.
