The International Language of Love

In June, I was blessed with the opportunity to meet Vincentians from around the world at the International Meeting of our Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Lisbon, Portugal. Even though many of us only spoke in our native language, we could still understand one another because we are all on the same mission of charity and justice.

In today’s world, which seems to want to divide us at every turn,
I was surrounded with people that were speaking a language Vincentians know so well — the language of love for one another.

THRIFT STORES CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS IN JULY

From Des Moines, Iowa, to Spearfish, South Dakota, to Chicago and everywhere in between, Society of St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores are celebrating Christmas in July with sales on festive items and donation drives.

Stores are selling Christmas trees, wreaths, lights, ornaments, stockings, wrapping paper, toys, holiday themed clothing and accessories, serveware and other decor.

Some Christmas in July sales and events run all month long, while others last a week or two and offer items at a significant discount. To find an SVdP thrift store near you, contact your community Catholic church or search online for “Society of St. Vincent de Paul thrift store” and the name of your city and state.

Like everything sold in one of our thrift stores, proceeds from these sales and events provide direct assistance to those in need with food, water, rent, utilities and other basic necessities.
