I want to share a brief update on hunger in our community and why your support during our summer Flash Match matters so much right now.
It has been one year since H.R. 1 set in motion devastating cuts to SNAP (known as CalFresh in California), severely weakening a critical line of defense against hunger across the country. Since then, we’ve seen ongoing threats to food assistance, USDA cuts and rising grocery costs push more households to the brink.
When food assistance is cut and grocery prices keep climbing, more of our neighbors go hungry. And more families across San Francisco and Marin are turning to the Food Bank for support.
The Food Bank remains an essential safety net when federal support weakens. Every week, we help provide food to 44,000 households, and because we buy food in bulk, each donated dollar goes much further than most families could imagine at a local grocery store.
