The Sea Island Selvedge

Arriving this week is the Sea Island Selvedge. Spun from a rare and exceptional Sea Island cotton, this special denim is a reproduction of what a 1920s denim might have looked like had it not been for a bull weevil infestation that decimated the crops. Originally grown in the West Indies in the 15th century, the cotton was a favourite among British royalty and aristocrats for its cashmere-like softness, durability, and extra-long staple. Luckily, some seeds were preserved, and in 2010s, the cotton was re-commercialized and regrown in the US. DNA testing can prove that the modern cotton is a perfect match to its historical predecessor. This rare cotton, which makes up only one one-hundredth of a percent of all the cotton grown in the world, is sent to a spinner in Japan to be woven into a unique, 12.3oz selvadge denim. The result is a soft, slightly hairy fabric that is not only beautiful and historical, but also incredibly durable. The denim is available in a variety of fits, including the Super Guy, Weird Guy, Easy Guy, True Guy, and Strong Guy.
