The Godzilla 1954 Selvedge

Fans of kaiju and denim rejoice! Naked & Famous Denim has unleashed a new collaboration with the iconic Godzilla. The Godzilla Through the Ages Capsule Collection is comprised of 5 jeans. We're taking a closer look at the first release: the Godzilla 1954 Selvedge.

This 16 oz denim pays homage to the very first film, ゴジラ(Gojira), released in 1954. Since the film was shot in black and white, the denim reflects this with a black warp and white weft construction. The result is a simple, classic black-and-white fabric that will fade beautifully over time. Even the selvedge ID is a clean, understated black and white, a subtle nod to the film's monochromatic palette.

But what really makes this denim stand out is its texture. The fabric is a low-tension slubby denim, which gives it a gritty, bumpy texture reminiscent of Godzilla's scaly hide. This isn't just a gimmick; the low-tension weave makes the denim feel incredibly unique and will lead to fascinating fades as you wear them.

The vegetable-tanned leather patch features incredible artwork of the original Godzilla, complete with black foil. Inside, the pocket bags are printed with various black-and-white movie posters from the Godzilla filmography, a fun touch for any fan. A dual-branded woven label in bold red features both the Naked & Famous Denim logo and the Japanese katakana for Gojira.
