Dan played guitar "terribly" as a teenager, and hadn't picked it up since. But one day a beautiful blue and gold Gretsch hanging in a music store caught his eye, and he brought it home.
"I was really enjoying it," he says, "but I just couldn’t find the way to make the guitar a tool of creation, because it was a tool of replication for me at the time.”
Then one day while he was browsing on his phone, he saw a "really funny, really well put together video" for a chord-generating synthesizer.
From the moment he opened the box, things were different. He turned it on, played a few notes through the internal speakers, and it filled up the room.
We watched the video Dan made about his experience, and asked him what it felt like when he clicked with Orchid. He said that "the moment that really blew my mind was when I was playing a simple chord progression on the Orchid and felt a spark of an idea. I picked up my guitar, an instrument I love but have often struggled to write meaningful music with, and started playing along."
