Israel has assassinated Ali Larijani, one of the Iranian regime’s top figures. In doing so, it has taken out a man who some people thought might be able to negotiate an end to the war. The regime is weakened. But now it may be seized by men even more hardline than Mr Larijani, and willing to fight on come what may.
Donald Trump coined the term “panican” last April, when markets shuddered after he unveiled his “Liberation Day” tariffs. Now panicans (“weak and stupid people”) are back, this time panicking about prices at the pump. Mr Trump won office vowing to avoid wars and lower the cost of living. Breaking both promises is costing him support. |
