About 13 ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz on April 7th. The next day, following an ostensible ceasefire, even fewer did. Much like the truce itself, the state of the strait remains unclear. For Iran’s foes, it may reopen at a price.
America went to war in the Gulf some 25 years ago. Back then, George H.W. Bush sought approval from Congress, convinced 41 countries to join the effort and declared victory only after achieving aims that he actually articulated. Social media did not exist. There are, in other words, rich contrasts to draw between that Gulf war and this one.
