This exciting virtual event will feature JDC Archives Director Abby Lester in conversation with Prof. David Nasaw, the acclaimed historian and author of The Last Million: Europe's Displaced Persons from World War to Cold War, and Joseph Berger, a longtime New York Times reporter, editor, and columnist whose family lived in the Displaced Persons (DP) camps.

Following World War II, more than 200,000 Jews in Europe were refugees, scarred and traumatized from the ordeal of the Holocaust. Many spent years in JDC-administrated DP camps, longing to rebuild their lives.

Together, we’ll focus on the plight of the displaced and examine JDC’s central role in providing the vital humanitarian aid needed to help survivors find community in DP camps and imagine a more hopeful future.
