Learning science has produced clear insights into how students learn best. Turning that insight into daily practice is the challenge, both for teachers balancing student needs and curriculum quality, and for the broader edtech ecosystem trying to build pedagogically sound tools.

At Learning Commons, our mission is to build public infrastructure that closes that gap. Today, we are sharing our collaboration with Anthropic in the launch of Claude for Teachers, a free tool for U.S. K-12 educators. We are also publishing Agent Skills as free, open-source tools that developers can build with directly. Developers can install and run the same lesson planning and differentiation skills that power the teacher experience.

A shared foundation: Knowledge Graph

Claude for Teachers is built on Learning Commons’ Knowledge Graph — a machine-readable, open-source network of datasets connecting academic standards, learning progressions, and high-quality instructional materials (HQIM). When Claude for Teachers generates content, it queries the Knowledge Graph, grounding the output in verified educational data, standards and learning science research. 

Closing the gap: Supporting high-quality tools 

Teachers deserve tools they can trust that deliver high-quality, classroom-ready resources. Claude for Teachers was designed to support educators with two common activities: developing standards-aligned lesson plans and instructional materials and differentiating lessons and activities to meet the needs of different students.

Agent Skills for teachers 

• Lesson Plan Generation: Teachers can describe their learning goals and receive a complete instructional package including lesson plans, student worksheets, and observation templates — all grounded in standards and prerequisite skills drawn from HQIM.

• Lesson Differentiation: By sharing an existing lesson, educators receive a teacher plan plus three versions of student worksheets (below, at, and above grade level). Each version preserves the full rigor of the standard while building in access supports and scaffolding. 

Evaluated for quality

We believe that rigorous AI tools must be transparent. Every output is scored against a rubric covering pedagogy, rigor, and subject-specific criteria. By measuring performance against established benchmarks, we identify and correct quality issues before they ever reach the classroom.

Advancing the ecosystem

Our goal is to provide the open data layer that makes credible AI-powered education tools possible. Knowledge Graph, Evaluators, and Agent Skills allow developers to build and evaluate AI tools with confidence. By demonstrating how research-backed instructional logic can be integrated into AI workflows, we hope to lower the barrier for every developer — from the smallest startup to the largest provider — to develop solutions that serve all learners well.

A growing ecosystem of support

To further assist educators, Claude for Teachers integrates with a broad ecosystem of specialized edtech tools. These partners — including ASSISTments, Brisk Teaching, Canva Education, Coteach, Diffit, Eedi, MagicSchool, Snorkl, and TeachFX — provide diverse instructional solutions ranging from math diagnostics to interactive classroom activities, all designed to enhance the quality of student learning.
