Good morning, Andy!
In S. A. Anselm and Terna Iwar’s story, The Last Days of Abuja's City of Metal, Chief Christopher Chinweze, known locally as DPO, sits in front of his shop watching the dismantling of Apo Mechanic Village unfold around him. It is a heavy moment that carries decades of displacement: from Area 1 to Garki, from Garki to Old Apo, from Old Apo to where he sits now, each move authorised by the same master plan that is coming for him again. ‘The horror of that experience,’ he says, referring to a relocation 20 years ago. ‘At this my age, I can’t do that run again.’
