BMW Classics is back! On Sunday June 15, the London Symphony Orchestra will return to Trafalgar Square for a concert of glorious classical music – and it's completely free!
Whether you're a casual classical listener or you know your Bach from your Bizet, you'll want to head to the heart of the capital for an afternoon of world-class music. This year's concert will be conducted for the first time by LSO Chief Conductor Sir Antonio Pappano. He's selected a programme that celebrates his Italian heritage, so expect a selection of lush operatic scores, soaring melodies and more passion than you can shake a baton at.
First, be prepared to swoon at the overture to Rossini's final Italian opera Semiramide. Then, it's Puccini's dramatic orchestral work Capriccio sinfonico, the rousing Triumphal March from Verdi's opera Aida, and the final flourish of the luscious Juventus, by Victor de Sabata. Audiences will also be treated to the world premiere of Isabella Gellis' Opera for Orchestra, specifically commissioned for this occasion and bringing together LSO and Guildhall School musicians with 55 young musicians from east London.
