I have been thinking about Mother's Day for a while,
My mother is no longer with me, but she is the reason I am who I am. She shows up in how I do things at The Edinburgh Natural Skincare Company. My mum loved French perfume, and when I created our Golden Rosewood range, it was with her in mind. That scent is hers, really.
Mothers give endlessly. They give their time, their energy, their sleep, their worry, and most of it without anyone stopping to say thank you. They are the first ones up and the last ones to sit down. They carry more than they ever let on, and they do it with a kind of quiet strength that I do not think gets enough recognition.
So if there is a mother in your life — your own mum, your partner, your grandmother, your sister, your friend — I hope today you take a moment to let her know what she means to you. It does not need to be grand. A kind word, a moment of rest, a small gesture that says: I see everything you do, and I am grateful for it.
And if you are a mother yourself, please hear this from me: you are doing a remarkable job. Even on the days it does not feel like it. Especially on those days.
