About 30 years ago, I chose Jean-Marc Sauboua to be my head winemaker at Château La Clarière. He was fresh from his training at Château Haut-Brion (one of the five famous “First Growths”) and has done a brilliant job ever since.

Instead of blending our thrillingly crisp, citrusy Sauvignon Blanc with Sémillon, like most Bordeaux estates do, he opted for its exceedingly rare “cousin” grape variety, Sauvignon Gris. This adds a unique minerality and rounded body to the finished wine.

Since its launch in 2016, the wine has won 18 gold medals, multiple 90+ scores and the Top Castillon White Trophy at the International Wine Challenge.
