The story so far
Vivienne Westwood began designing clothes in 1971, with her then-partner Malcolm McLaren, opening a shop at number 430 King’s Road in London, to showcase their creations.
Using fashion as a vehicle for political statements, and constructing garments via unconventional techniques, the pair were key figures in the youth culture of 1970's London, famously creating the template for punk style. In the 1980s, Vivienne began exploring the tailoring techniques of Savile Row, using British fabrics and 17th and 18th-century art for inspiration.

ANDREAS KRONTHALER
At the end of the 1980's, Vivienne met Andreas Kronthaler, who would later become her husband, long-time design partner, and Creative Director of the house.
Together, they created collections for over four decades, steeped in the romance of historical dress. Their collections have had a defining influence on fashion, extending long into the future.
With Vivienne passing in December 2022, Andreas continues their work at the helm of the fashion house - offering a laboratory of design ideas for his own line; feminine, avant-garde and elegant silhouettes - often subverted and genderless.
