For over forty years, the New Source Review program has served as a critical line of defense. Congress required these protections to ensure that decisions about the construction of major sources of pollution are only made after considering air quality impacts and giving local families a voice.
This new proposal flips that script entirely, creating a massive shortcut for developers. The Trump administration explicitly singles out massive AI infrastructure and fossil fuel power plants as facilities to be fast-tracked under this new policy. This would effectively allow them to begin physical on-site construction before their environmental and public health impacts are ever evaluated.
Not only does this proposed rule strip communities of transparency, but fast-tracking fossil fuel plants for tech infrastructure increases the risk of saddling everyday families with higher healthcare costs and skyrocketing energy bills.
Public health cannot be treated as an afterthought to corporate convenience. We have a brief window to demand that the EPA withdraw this proposal, but it ends tomorrow, June 29.
Demand that the EPA withdraw this proposal and protects human health over polluter profits.
