Well, it’s been another week in what can feel like the porta-potty of modern life. If your week was anything like mine, it involved at least one existential crisis, two spreadsheets, and three mosquito bites in a places you can’t scratch in public.
I took my daughter to Colorado to visit my mom and sister, who runs a permaculture farm called
Here and Now, yes it sounds like a meditation podcast but is actually a real place with dirt and bugs and goats that definitely have boundary issues. The trip was fully chaotic (we basically camped on the farm) and somehow also fully peaceful. But to make all that happen, I still had to work on designs, on Wimp, and keep things flowing.
Working remotely sounds romantic until you’re trying to send client emails from a field while goats bleat, and your hotspot connection is held together and duct tape. Still, I didn’t want to miss this trip. My daughter learned so much. She got my hands in the soil. She has memories.
So what’s the “decaf” way through that? Do I stay home and crush my to-do list? Or go anyway and accept that I’ll be half-functional and smelling faintly of compost? Honestly, I dunno, but it's an
interesting convo with y'all. I know we're all figuring out how to make gentler, saner choices in a sometimes cuckoo world.

A Game / Kollide with your family:
Does anyone else get frantic when someone suggests playing a board game? There are so many rules! Am I going to get it right?! Will I be any good at this?!! I like physical games for this reason (yes I'm a little nuts), and games like Jenga and Mancalla are fun for me. This one is right in that space and I think you'll love it.

Slowing down to learn Japanese. What are you learning slowly?

I've been studying Japanese for the last year and it's been one of the best gifts I've ever given myself. I was insanely daunted by the idea of having to learn something so foreign, but married to my incredible bride who's full Japanese and American, I wanted to really take this on for me, and for us.
Along with changing my career path, and jumping into functional movement fitness, learning a new language has changed my perception of myself in my late 40s. My mind is as bright and awake as ever.I'm ready for each new day. Feels great.
