Fall always feels like the season that admits out loud: nothing stays the same. Leaves turn, mornings sharpen (please soon!), light shifts. It’s a reminder that change isn’t a glitch in the system, it is the system.
That’s on my mind with Wimp right now. We’re a tiny team of two, trying to do something unusual. Not bigger, faster, louder. Just smarter. Lighter. Less about squeezing more work out of ourselves and more about asking, what if work bent to life instead of the other way around?
I'm in Japan right now for a stretch as part of that experiment. Stepping outside the grind of my designer day job. I'm poking at the idea that business doesn’t always have to come at the expense of margin for small adventures. (I will say though, here at the end of the night in Fukuoka Japan, my waste has no more margin for any more ramen!)

quilt by Faith XLVII, made from cut and sewn maps. It connected for me, as I lay down some steps on the other side of the world from where our precious decaf is roasted.

A Story / Simple things done well:
After surviving the 2011 tsunami, Sadao Obata lost his home but not his purpose. For 30 years he’s volunteered cleaning toilets in Tagajo, believing it refines the soul. Rain, snow, even scrubbing with frozen water, this dude shows up. Proof that devotion can turn the ordinary sacred.

A Tour / Rickshaws are coming back!
On the Swamp Rabbit Trail, Cascades residents (some in their 90s!) got pedaled back into childhood joy. Fresh air, slow pace, wide smiles. It’s a reminder that life doesn’t have to be rushed to be rich. Sometimes the calmest rides take you the farthest.

This artwork hits. It feels like standing in the surf, knocked around but still laughing. Anna's work is about getting back up, letting the water move through you, and finding calm on the other side.

A Food / Good things take time.
I'm actually in Fukuoka this week and I’ve got Imaya Hamburger on my list. Half hot dog, half burger, all cult legend. This dood is living his best life. Feels very Wimp: odd beginnings, stubborn spirit, comfort in a bun.
