Wimp Decaf Coffee Co
Coffee on a saucer inside of a cafe

Okay. Whatever you’re doing right now—stop. Like actually stop. Take a whole-ass minute to just take some deep breaths. I’ll wait. I believe in. you.

...

Now… what did you hear? What it's like to be your butt with half a human weighing down on it? Is it comfortable? Does it have regrets? Can you feel that faint static on your skin? That’s called being alive, and congratulations, you’re doing it.

That’s kinda what Thomas Jackson’s work (above) did to me this week. It looks like a trippy screensaver from a 2002 Mac, but it’s just wind, fabric, and probably a little  existential therapy.

Today's newsletter is a fun one. I enjoyed pulling these links together. I've been collecting a list of small-business gift ideas because, you know, support artisans, buy experiences, resist the toddler side of capitalism...  but halfway through I realized… this is just another way to optimize and compare, ugh. It’s like hustle wearing linen pants. It's so easy to turn everything into a "should".

I like playing with the idea that decaf is about shaking the shoulds, without being an irresponsible bug. Being decaf isn’t about self-improvement. It’s about hustle-interruption. It’s pausing before you accidentally sign up for another mindfulness app that yells at you to relax better. Pause better.  Let’s not turn chill into another sport, okay? Cool, we agree.

Now go have a weekend. Hug someone. Make eye contact with your barista like a real person. Commit a random act of kindness without tagging anyone.

xoxo,
Team Wimp

FORWARD TO A FRIEND
Probably a bad idea

A Scrapbook / Print is relief from digital:
I'm realizing how relieving getting physical momentos of life is. I've been keeping a running tab of my favorite family photos that pop up in Google photos memories, and hoping to make a book of it this year. Along those lines this very interesting gift/project thing is a pretty interesting way to catalogue a little of what life is like along the journey.

A Craft Gift / Handmade embroidered crafts? Yes.
One of the ways I'm trying to break through the flippin' noise both personally and here on the newsletter is promoting the little shops like this one called bookhou, cofounded by John Booth and Arounna Khounnoraj. They are trying to build small business like Wimp. I was recommended this shop and it does not disappoint. The details are 👨‍🍳😘.

A Bahahaha / What if your face freezes like that?
I got a really good laugh out of this post showing the faces of divers mid-dive. When I think maybe this is what I look like when I'm focused on designing. If you need a moment of hilarity, this is for you.

A Cute  / What the news used to be.
Remember before TV? Well I'm not THAT old, but not far from it. Apparently before that everyone went to the theatre (UK spelling is appropriate here) to watch the news. British Pathé was one of the legends that would bring the news, film, and education to these theatres. This is an absolute gold mine of interesting historical stuff on YouTube. Way better than the brain-rot of reels.

A Sign / NYCs best signage
This is a really sweet collection of the best signage being salvaged from businesses updating, changing hands, or expiring. Lettering, billboards, vinyls, all of it. Words, typography, and more. Just incredible.

From perk panic to peaceful!

Monique's decaf story is just the best. She had a kiddo, and then insomnia crash-landed into her life — blurgh! Running on zero sleep and espresso, she realized caffeine was making her feel like a squirrel on a stress bender—even at 8am. So she made the switch to decaf and hasn’t looked back in over two years. Bonus: she converted her husband too, and now his blood pressure is down and their household is approximately 87% more chill. Honestly? Power move.

Thx for sharing your story Monique & fam!
