Wimp Decaf Coffee Co
Coffee on a saucer inside of a cafe

It’s Saturday afternoon. The sun is doing that thing where it paints the dust in quiet beams. It's beautiful, and it also makes my OCD wonder how I can breathe with all that dust in the air. Regardless, the plants seem into it. I am too.

The holidays are coming right up, and among the hype, fun, frenzy, and nostalgia, I’m noticing how much I need to get my head above water and breathe. Writing this email each week helps with that. It forces me to stop, figure out where I am, and name what’s actually real.

Right now, it's this: My wife is out playing with her girlfriends. My daughter reluctantly cleaning her room, but I’m about to interrupt her and tell her she can take a break and go on a walk with me and the dog. Later we’ll probably make cookies or cinnamon rolls. Tonight we’re watching Back to the Future Part II because we watched Part I last night and it was somehow even better than I remembered.

The other way to live is in some story. I don't know about you, but mine can be loud. Make more money. Go faster. You’re running out of time. I’ve learned I have to intentionally call BS on those stories. Not gently. Directly. They aren't the realest real, and they don’t get to run the day, or my precious life.

I’m grateful I can try something different. I can't know the outcome, but I know this, I’m more rested and less stressed than I’ve ever been. Decaffeinating my work life and the way I show up in the world has become one of my highest priorities.

Wimp is a coffee company. Yes, we want to sell you coffee. Specifically I want our decaf to be the decaf you're willing to sign up to make your monthly bet on chill. But more than that, I want to just be calm together. Less noise. Slower, but better. Delicious cups along the way.

Have a good weekend.

Matthew

FORWARD TO A FRIEND
Probably a bad idea

A Photo Thing / Beauty of the abandoned:
I found Dmitri's work and immediately paused. I felt like I could see through a window into history itself. Artwork, photography that tells a real story.

A Needle Thing / Embroidery alive.
I'm noticing that I'm drawn to embroidered things lately and this is one of them. I think it's the character of the time I know it takes to design and then sew these crafts. It's not easy work. It's detailed.

A Letter / Let's all write more snail mail letters.
My grandmother used to ask me to write her when I was young. I didn't much. Now she's not around to write to, and I would do anything to write letters to her. The time it takes to think of the words. The way it feels sending or receiving. Check out this piece on the power of writing letters.

A Funny  / Fast-paced? Maybe not.
Not much to this. You'll laugh. I think. That's it.

An Article / The cost of sailing around the world.
We all dream of amazing things, but we push them off, and push them back, and say "later, when I finish XYZ". But it doesn't have to be that way. I was inspired by this couple's story of turning things upside down so they could try a different way.

"I switched to decaf and now strangers trust me with their dogs. My skin cleared up. I apologize faster. I still don’t understand crypto, but I’m calmer about it. I can’t prove Wimp did this, but I also can’t prove it didn’t."
