Wimp Decaf Coffee Co
Coffee on a saucer inside of a cafe

Last week a wee little package landed at WIMP HQ (AKA my front door). It was this hand-stitched Kuma (above), framed and looking tuff as hell. It came from the sweetest Wimp customer, Britany. She didn't ask. She didn't pitch. She just made the thing and mailed it to me. Reader, I melted. It's on my desk now and reminds me daily to slow down to the speed of stitching.

Brittney and her mom Kelly run OccaCollab, a mother-daughter craft shop right here in Greenville, SC, making handmade goods with a frankly absurd amount of joy. Cross stitch, crochet, the works. They take commissions too, so if you've got a logo, a portrait, or some weird little idea, go say hi on Instagram and poke around their Etsy. Give 'em some love. I can't get enough.

I'm so bored of technology right now. AI this, AI that, blah blah blah. I want more handmade, real-ass, touch-grass, knock-heads, makeout-sesh, roll around, human-to-human fun. That gutsy, just-do-it, send-it-anyway energy is the whole sandwich.

Case in point: this week I sat in the sauna after the gym and had the best conversation with a woman who's vocally all-the-way conservative. We just talked. About being good to each other, being good to the world, staying curious, keeping our minds open. To be honest, I think that's more people than we realize. There's no "other side,". We're all in this together. Log off and see if yourself.

I dare ya to share!

We decided this year we're gonna do our damndest not to do ads, and instead grow grass-roots. Person to person. Word-to-mouth. Mouth to mouth... (well that might be different), but you get the idea. But folks, if you think small business is better than billionaire boardrooms, then go share the shit outta some Wimp.

Probably a bad idea

A Sound / A laboratory of playful music.
Give yourself the joy of playing with sounds and instruments in a low key way. Click squares on a grid, watch them turn into a melody. Layer it, speed it up, see the sound become shapes. Free, no account, no save button, no point. Just play baby.

A Peek / Look out a stranger's window.
Get lost in someone else's view. Any view from around the world. This is the kind of internet we need more of. Less algorithm, more of "what's behind that door over there" (but the G rated version).

A Tasty / Now I want my cookies to chirp.
This Japanese artist pipes a single bird species into cookies. First, lets all admit that cookies are the best form of baked good (by far), then let's be in wonder at how she's doing this. The only drawback is that I don't really want to eat them they are so cool looking.

A Wander / Footpaths between every town in Britain.
Thousands of volunteers quietly walked and mapped a route between basically every town and city in Britain. Then they review each walk so the next walker knows what to expect. Somebody please do this for the United States. We could use some of this kind of sanity.

A Stitch / Old patches, sewn onto new hats.
If you've got a soft spot for faded Datsun and Mercedes logos like I do, this'll get you. Lost & Foundry hoards authentic vintage patches — racing crests, old car badges — and when you pick one, they hand-sew it onto a blank cap for you. Yours ends up one of one. I think I may have come across this from my buddy Dan at SimpleBits. If not, it's the kind of thing you can find over there on his newsletter.
