Hey folks — how'd you celebrate (or commiserate) yesterday? 250 years of these United States. However you marked it, I hope you did it out loud. Chill out loud. Fireworks out loud. Protest out loud. Family time out loud. (And for the record, "out loud" is two words. I looked it up. See mom, I'm working on my grammar.
That thing up above is our new Wimp sample pack. Something that could've taken two months took about eight — such is life running a little side business with a buddy. I get to Wimp most Fridays, the one day my main gig sets me loose. Letting it take the time it's gonna take is its own lesson in patience. A decaf company moving at decaf speed. On brand, I guess. And still, it's easy to look at the folks with whole teams behind them and feel a little behind. Ya know?
We could juice Instagram, TikTok, Google, all of it — throwing money at ads and screaming right alongside every other racket clawing for your attention. We could hire influencers to hold up the bag, take a sip, and gasp like they've seen the face of the decaf Lord. "No no, nobody's paying me, I just LOVE it." We could do all that and hope to dupe you into a purchase.
And honestly? That's how I find stuff I end up liking sometimes. But it feels gross right? Feels like tricks. Hoodwinks. Sleight of hand. The opposite of the world I want to live in. So Liam and I are working on a business model where the price, the product, and the brand all line up — a win-win-win between you, us, and the growers we get our coffees from. It's all an experiment. Trying to build something that's actually profitable, that actually gets you ridiculously good coffee, and grows enough to put real money in growers' pockets.
If this doesn't work, I think I'll go back to poll dancing. My wife thinks the market doesn't have the expendable income anymore, but ya know, I want to stay optimistic.

A Glow / Light paintings that feel like alien art Reuben Wu hikes into deserts and ice fields after dark, flies little lights on a drone through a long exposure, and comes back with photos that look like some alien was having a really great mushroom trip and decided to art up the sky. Found this over at my buddy Dan's
SimpleBits.
A Portal / They made pop-ups this good in 1865? These French "tunnel books" from the 1860s are just what the doctor ordered. My favorite kinds of wonder take time to create and this is no different. Layers of cut paper that pull out into a deep little scene you can peer straight into.
A Thing / Your whole year, as one long landscape. All 365 days laid end to end in a single view. No months chopping it up, no weekdays marked, so you start whenever and track whatever. It turns time into terrain instead of a grid to fill in. Printed on cotton paper the color of rust. I love being able to see a year like this. Makes everyday feel precious.
A Forecast / 90s Weather Channel calm, back on tap. This one is just weird. Probably you're going to hate it. You're going to roll your eyes and say WTF was Wimp thinking? But about 3 of you are gonna wet your pants with the nostalgia.
A Meltdown / The cussiest man on VHS. Before viral was a thing, a Winnebago pitchman named Jack Rebney detonated on set. Sweating, swatting flies, cussing out his whole crew between takes. The outtakes spread on bootleg VHS for years before the internet even existed. Watch a man completely lose it, beautifully. This is basically me trying to remember what I was doing every ten minutes yelling into the atmospher.
