Earlier this week I watched a time-lapse of the Milky Way. Slow, cosmic beauty doing its thing, when suddenly this massive asteroid ripped across the sky like it was late to a party. I watched it over and over. I flashed back to being sixteen, camping under the Colorado stars with my friend Matt, cooking smores and shouting at meteors like idiots. That memory lives rent-free in my brain, and honestly, I want more like it.
Too often, my head defaults to spiraling about the ramifications of our current political climate, or wondering if our species will last till Monday. If it's not existential it's about work and wondering if I'll be able to keep doing what I'm doing in design or if I'll end up slinging spreadsheets in a corporate basement somewhere. My head can be loud, and not in a fun karaoke way.
I can obviously not caffeinate my brain, that helps, but aside from that it's about what I choose to cut out, and what I decide to put in that really matters. More space timelapses, less finger-pointing politics. More inspirational weird old people, less stress inducing scarcity. But I think we do it better when we do it together. So I started a new subreddit: Decaf Life. It's for our little community of folks who'd like to live a little calmer, smile a little longer, and laugh at the way that pandas just seem to be adorably thick headed.

Wimp is tiny. We're two people. If you don't share about Wimp, we will probably get lost in a cave somewhere and they will write about our bodies in 200 years, and it'll be a mystery. Not a cool one though. They won't even make a netflix special about it.

RIP Kimiko Nishimoto, the wildly creative Japanese grandma who picked up photography at 72 and never looked back. Her surreal self-portraits made the internet smile, and her life reminded us it’s never too late to play. She passed at 97, tripod still in hand.

A Reading Party / Less screentime, more pagetime.
Imagine a silent disco, but for your brain. Bring a book, sprawl out at Hudson Yards, and read alongside strangers-turned-friends. Ambient music, no phones, just vibes. I'm hearing more about these kinds of experiences all the time. I think we're all looking for some reprieve from the empty promises of digital, social, news, and all that.

An Art Event / Maybe spacing out isn't bad afterall?:
In Seoul, 80 contestants competed to do… absolutely nothing. The Space-out Competition challenges people to sit still, think nothing, and vibe out for 90 minutes. It’s weirdly beautiful. Maybe you need permission to do less, too. Watch and see what stillness can stir.

A Cute Overload / Oh my gosh!:
There's an experience of seeing the world new, that's hard to get back after you've seen things ten thousand times over. Yet somehow watching a little girl soak up the beauty of our sweet world maybe invites us to scrub the eyes and try again to see things fresh, to see things new, to remember the novelty and wonder that's everywhere around us.

A Post / Community collaboration in a small place:
You might have picked up by now that I'm into Japan. This post caught my attention this week because it was sort of the delight of inconvenience with neighbors and a small community. We can be so independent these days but living in a small village requires so much more collaboration, and this post shares a little insight into the friction and beauty of that.
