Wildfires Displace Thousands in Manitoba
Our Relief Team arrived in Winnipeg as thousands of evacuees fled fast-moving wildfires in northern Manitoba. Within 24 hours, we began serving meals at hotels and transit hubs. Now, we're expanding distribution to reach additional shelters in partnership with local food trucks. Peter, from our Community Outreach Team, sat down with CBC Radio to discuss how we’re working to build trust in the community to reach anyone in need.

In Dauphin, three hours north, we delivered meals to evacuees sheltering in an arena within six hours. We’ve now assessed most evacuee sites and are actively supporting the sites requiring food aid. With over 4 million acres burned and 25,000 people displaced, we’re working closely with Indigenous and emergency partners to ensure no one faces this crisis alone.

Helping Families in Argentina Recover & Rebuild
In response to historic flooding across the province of Buenos Aires, WCK mobilized quickly—arriving in Argentina within 12 hours of identifying the need and serving meals on the first day. Over the course of two weeks, we provided more than 45,000 meals in partnership with four local restaurants, ensuring families had access to nourishing food during a critical time.
Beyond meals, the response laid the foundation for long-term local impact through meaningful collaboration. At Quiero Mi Vianda, one of our restaurant partners, meal production doubled in just two days with hands-on support from WCK chefs who helped streamline operations. These deep partnerships reflect a core WCK value: empowering local communities to lead. By strengthening local networks, we helped ensure our response offered tools for resilience that will serve communities well beyond the immediate crisis.

WCK Opens New Gaza Desalination Plant
With our cooking operations paused and warehouses empty, WCK transformed our infrastructure in Gaza to meet urgent needs—distributing thousands of gallons of water daily through repurposed delivery trucks and desalination plants. Our newest station is based at Damian’s Kitchen in Mawasi and now produces nearly 12,000 gallons each day, providing lifesaving drinking water to displaced families as we continue working towards safely resuming meal production.

Over two years ago, 13-year-old Yana began working with WCK to support her community in Ukraine through food distributions and coordination. Now 15 years old, she remains an active part of the WCK family, taking photos and setting up a shelter for displaced families. We provided Yana’s family with a hen—hers was the first to lay an egg at home.
