Yesterday evening, two powerful 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes hit the nation of Venezuela near the capital city of Caracas. The heartbreak across the region is unimaginable: 194 people have already been confirmed dead and over 1,000 injured, with this number expected to quickly and dramatically increase.

The double strikes were among the most powerful tremors to hit the country in over a century, and have caused mass destruction across a nation already in the midst of political and economic crisis. In addition to the millions of Venezuelans who have already been displaced globally, this disaster threatens to displace thousands more families from their homes and communities.

World Relief is rapidly mobilizing to respond to the greatest needs of this crisis — water, food, shelter items and psychosocial support — through partners and churches in Venezuela.
