Voters went to the polls in Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Oregon and Pennsylvania in hotly anticipated primaries, ahead of November’s midterm elections. Here’s what went down.

In Kentucky: President Trump-backed candidates prevailed, including a challenger to Rep. Thomas Massie, who has been a rare critic of the president, and Trump’s pick to replace Sen. Mitch McConnell. The results reveal how Trump, despite slipping in the polls, continues to wield power within the GOP. [Politico]
In Georgia: Republicans face a runoff after failing to select an outright winner in the fight for governor and U.S. Senate. Democrats selected Jasmine Clark to fight to succeed Rep. David Scott. Texas endorsement: In a blow to Senate Republicans, Trump endorsed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in his bid to unseat incumbent Sen. John Cornyn next week. Paxton is a close ally of the president, but comes with considerable baggage, including allegations of corruption. [BBC News]

IRS drops Trump audits

A controversial settlement agreement has permanently barred the IRS from pursuing claims against Trump, his sons Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. or his company based on prior tax returns. The deal does not apply to future tax audits, a DOJ spokesperson said. [CBS News]

Remembering San Diego victims

The authorities named the men killed in a shooting at a San Diego mosque. Officials praised their acts of heroism, which prevented the attackers from entering the building and reaching congregants. “Our victims did not die in vain,” the San Diego police chief said. [Yahoo News]

Google, Meta’s AI era

Silicon Valley is betting big on AI. Google announced new AI-powered tools and systems, including an AI assistant and a model to create video from text. Meta is expected to move 7,000 employees into AI roles amid layoffs affecting 10% of the company. [AP/NBC News]
