The ruling: In a 6-3 decision, the highest court in the land affirmed that children born in the country are considered U.S citizens, continuing a precedent dating back more than 150 years. Trump had campaigned on restricting birthright citizenship, arguing that the citizenship clause had been misinterpreted. [USA Today]

Response: In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that the court's decision was "too bad" and vowed to end the right through legislation. "No long and unwieldy constitutional amendment is necessary," he said. "Congress should today start work on ending expensive, and unfair to our country, birthright citizenship." [BBC News]

Other decisions: Separately, the court ruled that states can prohibit transgender athletes from competing on girls' and women's sports teams, with the three liberal justices dissenting.
