My mom was the first person I ever heard gush about Zingerman's sandwiches. I wouldn't eat my first reuben until I arrived in Ann Arbor for college some years later, but this legendary land of sandwiches stuck in my imagination.
Before doing this (finding food and writing about it) I'd been working on the sandwich line so I know what it takes to make the famous sandwich. The trick isn't "love"—it's the bread. Other great ingredients, too, but the bread is at least half the experience.
For this special Father's Day edition, we include everything that comes in our classic corned beef reuben sandwich kit: Jewish Rye Bread, sliced Corned Beef, sliced Emmentaler Swiss cheese, Zingerman’s potato chips, Coleslaw, Sauerkraut, Russian dressing, garlicky pickles, and Magic Brownie Bites.
Then we add Virginia Diner Peanuts and Caramel and White Cheddar Popcorn for pre or post-meal snacking.
It all comes with instructions and—as long as Dad can make grilled cheese—he can make this sandwich.
