Email Love Builder vs Taxi for Email.
Same idea, different source of truth.

Taxi proved the Email Design System model: build the system once, let marketers safely assemble on-brand variants forever. We believe in that model too. We just think the system should live in Figma, not in hand-coded Taxi Syntax.

We make Email Love Builder, and we owe a genuine debt to Taxi’s model. This page gives Taxi full credit where it wins and date-stamps every fact.

Trusted by 100+ marketing teams at brands like…

The quick take.

Taxi for Email, now part of Bird, is built on the idea Email Love Builder shares: marketers should assemble emails from a governed design system, not design them freehand. The difference is who maintains the system and where. In Taxi, developers or an agency hand-code the master template in Taxi Syntax, an HTML-based markup. In Email Love Builder, the system is your Figma component library, maintained by designers and synced to production automatically.

  • Pick Taxi for high-volume variant production from a stable master template, the job it has done for publishers and retailers since 2012.
  • Pick Email Love Builder when the design system should be owned by designers in Figma, with no developer bottleneck for design changes.
  • Taxi has no Figma integration at all as of September 2026.

Where they differ.

01

Taxi got the model right. The source of truth moved.

In 2012, “email design system” was a radical idea and hand-coding it was the only way to build one. Taxi deserves the credit for proving that marketers assembling from a governed system beats everyone designing freehand. We built Email Love Builder on the same conviction.

What changed is where design systems live. Over the last decade your brand’s components, tokens, and layouts moved into Figma, and your email system is almost certainly designed there before anyone re-codes it into Taxi Syntax. Which means the Taxi model now involves maintaining the same design system twice: once in Figma for designers, once in Taxi for production.

Email Love Builder removes the second copy. The plugin syncs your Figma components, Auto Layout and Variants intact, into MJML-backed production components. Design it once. Ship from the original.

02

What a design change costs

In Taxi, evolving the design system is developer or agency work. A new module, a spacing change, a rebrand: it goes into a queue, gets hand-coded in Taxi Syntax, and marketers wait. Day-to-day campaign assembly is genuinely self-serve, and reviewers like that part, but the system itself only moves at the speed of the developers who own it. The public review base is thin (a single G2 review as of September 2026), which makes diligence harder; it praises the assembly workflow and flags glitches as module variants multiply.

In Email Love Builder, a designer edits the component in Figma and the change syncs. No ticket, no re-code, no drift between the brand and the emails.

The honest flip side: if you have a strong email dev team, no real design resource, and a master template that rarely changes, the code-owned model can suit you fine. That is Taxi’s home turf.

03

Where Taxi sits inside Bird

Ownership diligence, because buyers ask and the history is confusing: SparkPost acquired Taxi in May 2021. MessageBird then acquired SparkPost and rebranded itself Bird in February 2024. Taxi is still sold under its own name with live docs at Bird, and Bird published a Taxi customer story as recently as 2026.

It is fair to note that Taxi’s public positioning has changed very little since the acquisition years, and there is no Figma story, no AI story, and no published pricing. None of that is a verdict on the product. It is a set of questions to ask Bird directly about roadmap and investment before you commit to a multi-year contract.

And no, Taxi is not owned by Sinch. Sinch owns Mailgun, Mailjet, and Email on Acid. The two get mixed up constantly.

04

Volume, variants, and languages

Taxi’s enduring strength is the variant factory: one master template producing hundreds of on-brand variations, with bulk multi-language and multi-segment generation and embedded Litmus previews across 90+ clients. Publishers and retailers have run enormous programs on it. If that is your exact shape of scale, Taxi has proven it longer than anyone.

Email Love Builder covers the same ground a different way: Figma Variants for structured variations, one master design with every language variant generated automatically, AI that generates on-brand emails from a brief using your own components, and previews across 90+ clients. And when the design system itself needs to change between campaigns, you are not waiting on a developer.

Which is right for you?

Choose Taxi for Email if

  • You produce hundreds of variants from a stable master template at publisher or retail volume.
  • A developer-owned, code-defined EDS fits your team’s skills and habits.
  • You are consolidating vendors on Bird.
  • You value a model that has been doing this exact job since 2012.

Choose Email Love Builder if

  • Your design system already lives in Figma, or should.
  • Design changes should not require a developer or an agency.
  • You want published pricing and a free plugin to pilot this week.
  • You want an actively shipping roadmap, including AI built on your own components.
  • You want migration done for you.

Questions, answered.

Is Email Love Builder a good Taxi for Email alternative?

Yes, and it is the closest philosophical match on the market: both are Email Design System products. The difference is that ours syncs from Figma and is maintained by designers, while Taxi’s is hand-coded in Taxi Syntax and maintained by developers.

Does Taxi for Email work with Figma?

No. As of September 2026 Taxi has no Figma plugin, import, or integration. Designs made in Figma are re-created by hand in Taxi Syntax.

Who owns Taxi for Email now?

Bird. SparkPost acquired Taxi in May 2021, and MessageBird acquired SparkPost and rebranded as Bird in February 2024. Taxi is often mistakenly said to be owned by Sinch; Sinch owns Mailgun, Mailjet, and Email on Acid.

How much does Taxi for Email cost?

Taxi does not publish pricing; it is demo-led with custom quotes. Email Love publishes its pricing: the Figma plugin is free to start with paid plans from $19 per user a month, and Email Love Builder comes with Enterprise plans scoped on a call.

Can you migrate our Taxi Email Design System?

Yes, and it is usually the easiest migration we do, because the original designs typically exist in Figma already. Most migrations complete within two weeks.
